NBS Television on Monday rolled out a nationwide reporting plan as Uganda heads into the 2026 general elections, deploying teams across the country to monitor voting, tallying and public safety developments.

The broadcaster said the plan is designed to deliver steady, verified reporting during a tense electoral period, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, fairness and compliance with electoral laws.

“True to our promise, we are delivering comprehensive coverage across all districts of Uganda. Using the latest technology and a nationwide team of reporters, we are committed to accurate, fair and responsible reporting, guided by verified information and respect for electoral laws,” said Dalton Kaweesa, Head of Current Affairs at Next Media.

The deployment is expected to feed a continuous stream of election updates, combining ground reports, studio analysis and district-by-district briefings. NBS said its teams will report from both urban centres and rural communities, from Kotido in the northeast to Kisoro in the southwest, in an effort to reduce information gaps that often fuel rumours during elections.

Election periods in Uganda are typically marked by intense demand for information, with social media content often circulating faster than official updates. Newsrooms face pressure to publish quickly, while audiences seek clarity and confirmation.

NBS said its election coverage will prioritise verification over speed, noting that reports from the field will undergo desk checks before broadcast or publication.

The broadcaster said it will clearly distinguish between confirmed facts and developing claims.

The network has not publicly disclosed a full list of deployed teams or districts, but said the strategy is built around regional coordination aimed at minimising blind spots, misinformation and panic, particularly during the sensitive results-tallying window.

For many viewers, live election results remain the most anticipated content. NBS said its results coverage will prioritise verified sources and clear labelling, allowing audiences to distinguish between confirmed results, provisional updates and claims still under review.

The broadcaster also pledged to issue visible and straightforward corrections where information changes, acknowledging that early figures can shift as tallying progresses.

A senior editor at Next Media, speaking on background, said the aim is to keep audiences informed without inflaming tensions.

The editor noted that calm presentation is part of the media’s public service role during periods of political pressure.

Beyond on-air reporting, nationwide coverage depends heavily on logistics such as transport, mobile connectivity, live transmission tools and newsroom coordination.

NBS said it is relying on updated technology to reduce delays from the field and support faster verification at the editorial desk.

Media analysts note that while technology has made district-level coverage more feasible than in previous election cycles, consistency remains the key test.

An independent analyst said trust is built when national stories are reported to the same standard across all locations.

Election reporting in Uganda operates within strict legal limits, with broadcasters exposed to sanctions if they air unverified claims or content that could incite public disorder. NBS said respect for electoral laws is central to its deployment strategy, linking lawful reporting to fairness and responsibility.

The nationwide coverage falls under the #UGVotes2026 banner, with NBS positioning itself as a reliable source of election information.

The broadcaster says its focus is simple: presence on the ground, disciplined newsroom processes and steady updates throughout voting and tallying.

As the election period unfolds, the effectiveness of the deployment will be judged on whether it delivers timely, calm and accurate reporting in a fast-moving and highly charged environment.
